Does anyone have any tips/hints/suggestions on how I should prepare my 'Tour for sitting for three months? I won't be able to drive it while I'm in training. I'm just wondering if there's anything special I should do as far as fluids or anything. It'll be sitting in AL, so at least it won't be sub-zero like it can be here this time of year. Any help would be great!!
Thanks, gang! Stephanie
OH! I saw a nice SE Sport ('98 I think) for sale at Monticello Ford. It was Tropic Green with tan cloth interior and a manual transmission. They had it listed at $8900 if anyone's looking. It only had 24K miles!!

Make sure the battery is good and charged up. Then buy yourself some STA-BIL (brand name) fuel stabilizer and follow the directions on the back. The nice thing about newer cars is they don't have near the problem with sitting that old cars used to. You might see if you can get it out at least once halfway through just for a few miles.

Make sure the gas tank is chock full of fuel, and I'd give it a fresh oil change right before storage.

Ditto! John and James said it right. It is more like long term parking than storage.

Thanks for the info, gang! I knew I could count on all of you.
I'll have a great trip down to Alabama, the car will sit for three months and then I get to drive it to California! Good thing I love my Contour!!
I just took it in for the 60K mile service getting a new air filter, fuel filter, oil change, anti-freeze check...all the good stuff. She should be good for a while.

You might also want to wash it and give it a wax before you put it away. I've seen to many people not wax their cars and the dust collected and the car needed a great deal of buffing. Also, make sure you get all the sand and salt off the bottom of the car, it will rust very quickly with any moisture. Try to park/store in a garage out of sunlight, it will help with the car not fading.
