Well... my life's been miserable since a mechanic changed a heater hose and cut my vaccum hose accidently.

the whole story is in here:

The problem

Well.. i need help getting the vaccum hoses that go to the EGR Backpressure Transducer (9J460).

I went to the dealer today and they want to charge me $98 for it !!! They told me it is a "package" with the 2 vacc hoses (to part 9J460) and a heater hose (the one mentioned above, that the mechanic changed two years ago).

Could someone else confirm that to me ??

The part number is: 9P761 It is suppose to be some hoses... I cannot believe it would cost about $98 !! eek eek

I would really appreciate.

Thanks

BB

I am not sure about the heater hose that you are talking about, but the two hoses that connect to the EGR Backpressure Transducer (aka DPFE) should be easy to replace. If you can't get them cheap at Ford, you should be able to replace them with hose that you can buy by the foot at your local auto parts store. For example, I know that they sell fuel line at Trak Auto and Pep Boys for about a $1.00/ft.

You just need to find out the inner diameters of the two hoses. I believe that they should be 1/4" or 3/8", but if you pull them off, you should be able to measure and replace them. Also, I believe that each hose has a different diameter.

Hope this helps.

I thought about doing that too.. but the guy at the dealer told me those are special hoses specially engineered for that application. BS ?? I dunno...

I really think that back when that mechanic cut your hose, you should have had him pay for it and replace it, at his expense.
I dunno if 2 years later is too late to go after him for it now, but I really don't think that you should be paying for something like that.

Did you know back then that he had cut the hose? or are you just finding out now that there are cuts in the hose???

You had to ask that, huuh ?? mad

I feel stupid.. I saw when he cut the hose... I even asked him and he told me "it's only an air hose" I didn't even think at that time that was important at all...

I know the guy... I don't expect to get any money back.. but I'll stop by and tell him about the hoses... and I still have the receipt for it...

The two black hoses that connect to the DPFE are just used to transfer exhaust gas between the EGR tube/pipe to the DPFE and back. The DPFE then measures how much exhaust is flowing in that tube/pipe. That means that you just need an air-tight hose that can transfer exhaust. A fuel hose should be air-tight, otherwise fuel vapor would escape from it.

Hopefully, others on the board will chime in and let you know about the truth of the dealer's statement.
