So I have this fine for speeding and a failure to appear in Lufkin from the end of 2000. All the information has been sent to Austin, so the city of Lufkin can't waive the failure to appear fine, which is more than the speeding fine itself. I want to talk to someone in Austin so I can fax enlistment papers and get the failure to appear fine waived like Parker county did for me (Weatherford). But she didn't have a phone number to give me of someone in Austin who can do that. I'd rather not pay the failure to appear fine and only pay the ticket, if I can get away with it.

Anyone have any bright ideas? I have until Friday.

who exactly was it sent to in austin?

that information makes a difference.

My ideas...
1. if the city of lufkin is sympathetic maybe they could ask on your behalf.
2. ask your recruiter or your preacher
to contact them

cant do much more till i know whom holds your fate.

I was there too about a month ago. I found out who (what court) had my ticket (or whatever it is) and just asked to talk to the judge. He then just got rid of it and reduced the fine smile . He was real nice about it and said he was glad that I called and didn't let it run on anymore.

Mine was also from awhile back (1999) so I don't think it really matters how long it has been as long as you are polite about trying to work it out.

I'm gonna do my best. Funny things happen when you can fax enlistment papers...

I talked to the DPS in Austin and they said they pull their information from Omni-Base which is an automated reporting system for individual cities and districts to pool information on offenders so the state can keep records. The DPS didn't have anything to do with it.

I called back the city of Lufkin and told them what I had learned. The judge has the authority to reduce or waive fines and fees and then report the dismissal to Omni-Base so the DPS will have accurate records. I typed up a cheesy letter and faxed it to him, along with my enlistment papers. He waived the failure to appear fine and the total cost of the ticket was more than cut in half.

Persistance pays. smile

Thanks for your help, guys.
