Until the new M5 hits the streets it's all speculation but based on the history of the M5, it probably will have 500 hp and stock for stock will probably beat a cobra. Like some crazy company did to the Mercedes V-12 (I believe the supercharged Mercedes V-12 put out over 600 hp), someone will supercharge or turbo charge that 500 hp V-10. Basically, if you have the money you will be the fastest. I was just commenting on the M-5 hunting. I know of a mustang, not street legal but driven on the street, can do a 9-sec quarter mile. The guy spent like $60,000 to make it do that. So I already know of Ford that will beat the new (stock) M-5.

The big thing is that it will have a blower sitting on top. Horsepower will be 390. That puts it up in the M5 hunting catagory.

A 6 speed manual trans is also included in the package.

The block will be iron, not aluminum. The rods are forged and look really beefy.

Why didn't SVT do this before the demise of the Camaro and Firebird?
Let me guess, you're a car salesman. It's sad that you don't have to know about your own car lineup to sell them. I walked into a showroom month and a half ago to get a TSB taken care of. Wanted to see if they had an '03 Cobra in the showroom and got ambushed by roughly 3 or 4 salesman(I had to walk through the sales office to get to the showroom). I asked if they had any and all of them looked at me and proceeded to tell me that they were not even sure if Ford was gonna make those.....This was an SVT authorized dealer. Burt Arapahoe Ford in Denver, CO.

Bzzzzzt, wrong answer. Try the Service Department, you'll find Big Jim over there. And he's even in one of the 5% of Service Dept's that I would take my car to, based on the knowledge I've seen from him.

No, reflection on Jim as he doesn't control Ford training but kinda late to train service don't you think. People have been taking orders on '03's for months now. Especially when it's a car with a brand new setup that might require a little attention.

i doubt the gto will be much competition for the cobra(certainly not a modified one)the gto is only projected to have about 300 hp,and the 1/4 mile times were projected to be high 14's to low 15's..don't think cobra owners will have to worry about the gto...

Yeah, Big Jim really seems to know his stuff. He has saved my ass a few times. Wish I lived closer to him so he could work on my SVT.

I sure hope he goes over to fc.org when the CEG goes down. Please join fc.org Big Jim!!! laugh

An article in Auto News about two or three weeks ago hinted that the GTO would have something close to 400 HP. GM intends to pay the gas guzzler tax on it.

ford just let chevy push them around for years and didnt fight back.

You know that is the only big complaint that I had with Ford, is that they put all this money into making the Lightning "not that I don't love them" it took them so long to make a car that fast. I'm on my 3rd Ford and I still love driving them. But I wish it came around sooner.
