I've been having a lot of fun at work lately. The shop I work for has accounts for lots of new car dealerships here in Wichita, and since all our "runners" are going back to college, we painters and dent guys have had the fun task of driving all the dealer cars to and from the shop in our down time.

Last week I drove many cars, from Malibus to M3s, and I must say that very few of them had anything on our Contours. Here's some thoughts on a few cars I thought highly or poorly of (feel free to weigh in):

Cars I was impressed with:
-BMW M3, Z3 Coupe
-Pontiac TransAm LT1 (uh, zoom zoom)
-Buick Regal GS (Supercharged, smoked a GT Eclipse in it)
-All the new Hyundais!!!

Level playing field with the Contour:
-Toyota Matrix (This thing dosen't feel like it has 175 hp until it gets to the redline and the VVT kicks in, plus the handling is really floaty considering all the hype this car has recieved)
-Chevy Malibu V6 (Not nearly as refined or race-car-like as a Contour, but still a quick 4 door)
-Honda Accord V6 (Sure seems a tic slow, even compared with the Malibu. But it's supposed to have 200 hp...?)
-VW Beetle 1.8T (Quick but not a rocket)
-Ford Focus (All around a good car)

Cars I was disappointed with:
-Mazda Protege5 (Good handling, way too slow)
-PT Cruiser (Bo-ring, ugly and minivan like)
-Honda Civics and base Accords

LET THE OPINIONS AND BICKERING BEGIN!!! laugh

1994 Ford Aspire 4-door, looks like a big egg
*64 hp 4-cyl

Contours are something special. During their production, cars were pretty "cookie cutter" and lifeless. Contours had soul. I don't know, just something tangiable that you can feel when your driving one. From base GL zetecs to SVT's. They spoke to you saying "let's go take that off-ramp at 60 this time!"

Dude, I had a Malibu V6 as a rental last week. Apart form the stereo, it had absolutely nothing on a Contique. I thought it was dog slow and handling was iffy.

I drove a few miles in a GP GT as well. That was much better. Plenty 'O Grunt and a nice tight handling feel as best can be judged from the few miles I drove it. Pity it's an ATX only.
