i think pemex in meh-he-co is is pretty scary but i never minded putting it in the rental cars when down there

here in cali just about any independent station is a test of your cars fuel system

one station killed my fuel pump with the crud filled gas

I never fill up with gas at a no name station. I use Texaco, Chevron, or Shell with out problems. There was a post quite some time ago that someone with an SVT was told by the dealer to use Texaco.

I usually buy from Amoco or CENEX. Since I am buying diesel it's a different ballgame but CENEX and Amoco premium diesels are some of the best.

There's 4 grades of Pemex fuel: Nova, Magna Sin, Premium and Diesel.

Nova used to be the leaded fuel. Pemex phased out leaded fuel along with everyone else, but kept the Nova name. Nova is the rotgut crap that Mexican gasoline is famous for. Low octane (as low as 80) and quite poor in quality. It's cheap and sells well to the poor and people with barely running cars.

Magna Sin is equivalent to regular unleaded in the US. It's usually pretty good stuff, I've fueled with it before.

Premium is just that, 93 octane premium. It's on a par with most "X" brand premium fuels in the US.

Pemex diesel, however, is far cleaner than the diesel sold in the US or Canada. Low sulfur and high cetane, it's actually superior to the premium diesel sold at most venders in the US, and at a lower cost than diesel in the US.

Well, here in Oregon it's illegal to pump your own gas, and Arco stations make you get out and pay, so I stay away from those. I always use Texaco or Chevron. I also get the gas with the highest octane. It seems to get rid of the ping sound at high RPM's and plus I think it helps the car perform better (at least I tell myself that to feel better about spending more wink ). With Arco, which generally costs less, they use weird gas mixture I hear, so I'm a little reluctant to go there. If you know anything about that, please let me know. Maybe it is better for my car. Well, that's my 2 cents.

Union 76 is pretty good stuff.....however, with the exception of Clark (which I would not use even if it were free) I usually get the cheapest chit I can find...and that goes for all my cars.

I have found that Chevron actually sucks. I got a little bit of detonation from their gas so I switched to 76. No problems to speak of since. They also have 100 at the pump there. laugh

If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

In Ontario?

The Gas with the least amount of sulphur is Sunoco. All average <~200 ppm. That makes it the best for me... Their Ultra 94 has less than 150 ppm!!!

By 2005, all stations should be less than 30 ppm in Canada, IIRC.

The worst is Esso, or Exxon in the US.

High sulphur content in gas doesn't allow our cats and other emission systems to run optimally.

Since I switched to just Sunoco gas, I haven't experienced any "rotten egg" odour....
