Round 2 of the Heart of Illinois Autosound Challenge will be Saturday, July 20th in Eureka, IL. It will be in the park at Eureka Lake.

Three independent formats of judging will be offered. Car Show, Sound Quality, and SPL. Entry fees are $30 for any 1 format, $50 for any 2 formats and $60 for all three formats. Trophies will be given for 1st-3rd place in each class, plus there will be several "Best of" trophies awarded as well. As before, spectating and hanging out with friends in the park is free.

Registration will be from 8 AM to 11 AM, with the car show judging and sound quality judging starting hopefully around 10AM. The SPL first pass will start between 11 and 11:30, followed by a short break for lunch and then the SPL second pass should be completed by 2:00 or 2:30.

This event has been sanctioned by SLAP, the Sound, Looks and Performance Association. www.slapshow.com

Door prizes have been and continue to be collected for this event. The door prize list so far includes:

10 free spaghetti dinners at Fazzoli's
5 free haircuts at The Hair Cuttery
12 T-shirts donated by JVC
3 T-shirts donated by Mangold Ford in Eureka

Door prize items will also be provided by the Mitek Corporation (MTX/Xtant/Coustic/Street Wires) and by JL Audio. I do not know what these will be yet, but they said they will send some things (probably will not be product, but you never know). Tickets for the door prize drawings are free with paid entry to at least 1 format of the show. (3 tickets for 1 format; 10 tickets for 2 formats; 20 tickets for three formats)

I will continue to gather items over the next week as well to get more non-t-shirt items and products.

Also, the factory Demo vehicle from Xtant is scheduled to be on hand. It is a Saturn Vue loaded with Xtant product and was selected as one of the best demo vehicles at the 2002 Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas this past January. Additional performance accessories include 20" Konig wheels, Konig strut tower braces, Suspension Techniques springs (lowering the vehicle 4?), StreetGlow neon and strobes, StreetScene grille inserts, Gibson Performance Exhaust, and Matworks floormats. Please visit www.xtant.com for additional information and photos.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Yes, there is also a show on the 21st.

Saturday the 20th is my event in Eureka.
Sunday the 21st is the Tweeter event in Downers Grove.

Both are sanctioned by SLAP and both will be coordinated by me.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

So tell me how it works now...like from when I get there and what to expect in the lanes. Do you still need a "book" of your system/install or does this make a difference. When would I need to be there and how long do you expect it to last.
I'm sure I'll have more questions...just can't think of them right now.

What's the address of the place I need to be?

ooops...just read the other thread...answered a few of the questions. I'll need some help with a presentation though...not really sure what to say, or what they want to hear.

Christian,

What you can expect is a fun and relaxing day in the park. smile

I would suggest arriving about 9:30 or so (allow about 2 hrs from the SW suburbs if you're coming to Eureka, plus a little extra if you want to wash the car when you get to town). When you get to the event, you'll park with the rest of the SQ competitors and that is where your car will stay for most of the judging process. In-place judging allows you to leave all your stuff in one place and open the car for display most of the day. The only time you'll need to move is to get your spl measured and then you'll return to your spot.

During the install judging, you will get 5 minutes to present your car to the judge. Basically what you want to cover is what you did to make sure your install is as solid as it could be. Sell the integrity of the installation, because under the Street rules format this is the most important thing. Other high points are safety of the install (proper wire size, fusing, grommets and terminations) and safety of the vehicle (no modifications to OE airbags, seatbelts, seat position, vehicle controls). The typical approach is to start under the hood at the battery, then go to the rear of the vehicle to show the trunk and then finally to the interior of the car. But everyone has their own variations of this.

2 major points of consideration: Make sure the main system fuse under the hood is no more than 18 inches from the battery and make sure there is a grommet where the power wire passes through the fire wall.

Pictures will be beneficial if there is any aspect of the install's integrity or safety you want the judges to know about, but cannot show them unless you have the picture. One example would be the fuse for the head unit.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Oh please, you're not insulting my intelligence by asking meaningful questions.

I think you'd be in either Novice Street 1-600 watt class (for 1st year competitors), or in Amateur Street 1-600 (for more experienced competitors.) If you go Novice Street 1-600 I know you'll have some competition in your class in Eureka (not sure about turnout at Downers Grove) which makes it more fun. Amateur Street 1-600 might be kinda lonely.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Bob I just wanted to make sure you understood where I was coming from...the internet can be hard to determine exactly what someone is saying...no facial expressions or voice characters to help. laugh

ok can I choose the class i'm in or do they chooes it for me? If I choose a class will I have to stay in that class for the entire year?

thanks! Christian

You can choose your class, as long as you meet the critria of the class (for example: all employees of a business that sells 12v must compete Pro or higher). Once you are in a class, moving around is frowned upon unless something has changed (more or less power, got a job that automatically makes you pro, etc.). Also, once you compete as an Amatuer you cannot go down to Novice.
