96E60 JUL 97 Recall - Catalytic Converter Replacement

Found this on ALLDATA for a 97 V6 model contour...

I have a 97 and am getting complaints about my stinky exhaust!!!!

They replaced my front header due to a bad cat? Does this mean the main under the car cat or all cats???

I have been on the site before and never noticed this?

Sounds like you got your priorities mixed up if a dead water pump is "P.S."...sounds more important than a stinky cat.

No my priorities are NOT mixed up thanks...My car in is sitting right now...I was looking for recalls today after I called my mechanic about the pump! Just hoping that new info was available about the pumps... Just hoping that they finally caved in and admited and was going to fix these darn pumps...

While I was there I noticed about the cat... Thats all?

dude, i got this recall done awhile ago. they replaced both pre-cats and the main cat too. they get clogged and rob your car of performance. get it done! later.

If I recall correctly this recall replaces only the pre cats unless the pre cats have come apart and damaged the main cat, in which case all three get replaced. You do not automatically get three new cats.

Seeing how the Pre-cats are welded to the HEADER. Guess thats Two new headers correct? A recall is a recall. If it was NOT performed on my car will they still perform it even though its 5 years old???

My exhaust stinks to high heaven...

Also is there a site to check to see what recalls were performed on my exact car by entering the VIN#??

As I'm coming to the painfull conclusion of...... Make sure they start by replacing the pre cats, assuming they are plugged. My dealership did the main cat first. Now my precats went bad so they just did them. Of course since the since the precats probably ceumbled their way down stream. If I'm not mistaken my main cats is as a result once again plugged. Of course the dealership is trying to get me to replace other things to get my power back...i.e. MAF. that is becasue if they try to replace the main cat again they will get some flack from FORD for doing it twice. Now had they done it right the first time......... :rolleyes:

I have NO idea why the car's exhaust is stinking! I was told here on the post about 6 months back its the sulfer in the fuel...

Them smell is SO strong that if it was sulfer from the fuel THE WORLD would smell like a rotten egg.. :rolleyes:

About six months ago I had the car in for a CEL. Turned out that the dealer replies "You need your front cats replaced"... I say OK. Bad news is they say "its gonna cost $$$ (don't remember the figure, but it was outrageous!)"

I say "Gee, thought ford had a emisions warranty to like 80,000 miles... She says let me check.. Sure enough you were right.

Darn right I was right. They were gonna rip me off...

So now that I see the recall, I remember seeing it before, I appologise. I asked about it and they said there was NO recall? Is this recall I posted TRUE for 97's or NOT? It fell under the 1997 Ford contour V6 at alldata.com......Could it be a typo??

I am going to get them to do the rear and the main after I get my water pump issue taken care of.....

its not a ford warranty that covered the cats.
its a government warranty..8 years/80,000 miles.
just had all three of mine replaced under it.
