I got pissed at my fuel filler neck about a year ago and sorta cracked it. Actually it's really cracked... I got tired of the pump shutting off every 3 seconds and just rammed the nozzle in there one time. The part where the flapper valve sits is cracked almost all the way around the inner diameter of the neck itself. I haven't had problems with filling the tank since my little fit but I need to pass emissions before 31 MAY.
I know they do a visual inspection of the filler neck to make sure you aren't using leaded gas pumps (cuz there's so many of those still around?). And I'm guessing they'll notice this. You can't fit an enlarged regular leaded nozzle in it, but they might think I tried it or something... I tried to fix it with superglue but it's too cracked. So I guess I answered my own question?
Why are they plastic anyway? Every other car (10 others) I've ever owned had metal filler necks...
I noticed the filler neck TSB when I did a search but I want to know if just having a cracked filler neck would affect my emissions visual inspection results. I'm kinda leary of going to the dealer again because all the Ford dealers close to me seem to either ruin my car or just joyride it (Fair Oaks + Packey Webb). So if I don't NEED to get it fixed, I don't want to. Thanks!
