I go to pick up my Contour from Fair Oaks Ford yesterday and the front bumper is totally scraped!!! Not just a little ding or scratch, but clear through the paint and into the plastic. The paint was all flaking off around it and there was white/gray paint from something else all over the bumper. It's about a 8x8 area at the front driver corner. To top it off, we didn't notice it until we got home (about 3 miles but 35 minutes in traffic!). So we call the service department and the guy is saying he'll need a manager approval first-- if they are even responsible or if it was like that already!!!

So by now I'm livid and tell him that we'll be coming back. I pull the car into the service staging area and get out and ask for the guy I talked to (Russ) and just point to my front bumper. Then his other co-workers are telling him to make sure it didn't just happen like I hit something after I picked it up and brought it back to blame them. Anyway, they're going to fix it. But I'm kinda nervous they might do a crappy job-- based on their track record so far. Black is so un-forgiving too...

This is the second time the car has had to go back to fix something they broke while doing the original repairs. First time in, they replaced the front knuckles, spindles, f/r rotors + pads, and "aligned" it. Picked it up, the car was pulling to the side and the steering wheel had to be cocked 1/8th turn to keep the car straight! On top of that, the front air dam/brush guard was loose on the driver side and hanging down almost touching the groud! When I called him about that, he tried to blame the pulling on torque steer (explaining it to me like I don't know what it is) and that all fwd cars do it. And the air dam thing is just a cheap piece of plastic that Ford put on all Contours. I said, this isn't a coincidence that I pick up my car after they work on it and this stuff is wrong with it. There were also 2 plastic push-pins on the floor that supposedly didn't come from my car. Then what are they doing in my car???

We just got that stuff fixed when this has to happen! I told him I don't know if a porter hit another car or a pole or what, but this is getting rediculous. He said he hoped it wasn't another car and they'll fix it.

And I thought Packy Webb's service department was garbage. Is there a good Ford service department anywhere in IL???

Top it off, I got laid off yesterday too. What a day. Sorry, just had to vent...

Sorry to hear about your bumper troubles.

My wife hit our garage with my black E1, scraping the crap out of it and making nice pretty white paint designs all over it. It also slightly bent the front 1/4 panel where the bumper mounts to the car (you may want to check yours too).

Joe Madden Body Shop (Downers Grove) quoted me $63 yesterday to buff it out. However, it won't look new, as there are some areas worn thru the paint. Sucks, cuz I'm not likely to pay the $500 (or more) to have them refurbish or replace the bumper. We'll see how it goes.

Good luck!
