Seeing as the topic got locked while I was away for a few days I am going to respond here. Sorry to the mods if this upsets you but I have put alot of time and effort into this.
Its the kind of attitude expressed in the previous thread that is the reason the American Sport/Compact car is being kept down! Its about high time we have something to call our own. To have event were OUR cars are the feature, not the damn Camaro or Mustang.
This isnt about being RWD and V8 powered. This is mainly for the as we are called WRONG WHEEL DRIVE cars. Its easy to beat your chest and play KING KONG when you go into "battle" with a bigger engine pushing around twice the displacement! TRY BEING A LITTLE DIFFERENT AND BEATING THEM ON THEIR OWN TERMS!
I dont appreciate the race being knocked. I have put ALOT of my LIMITED time into putting it together
You dont want to be a part of it FINE! Just dont bash it just because it isnt for you. This race started out last year CONTOUR VS GRAND AM and this cars will always be a part of it beacuse they are the biginning of it. As for waht a car is for. ITS FOR WHATEVER THE OWNER CHOSES TO DO WITH!
To mods. Again I am sorry but it upsets me to see the event that I have put so much time and effort into getting bashed. I am trying to give us American Made small/compact guys something to call our own were we wont be *******ized as being wrong wheel drive and such.

Also on another note of getting the other thread locked that contained all the needed information on the race. THANKS ALOT. The thread is going to fade farther out now and I will be having to answer questions that would have been able to be answered in that thread. But seeing as people wont see it right away now I am sure the questions are going to start coming from people that jump in late.
Last year I think we had over 20 cars there when it was just Contour vs. Grand Am and I think all that were there would tell you they had fun. This isnt just about racing. Its about meeting new people with similar interest and having fun.
I am sorry if it seems I am going on about this. This is something I have a passion for and am trying to share with more then just other Grand Am owners. Take this for whats its worth. Laugh at it if you will. I dont really care what people think but I HAVE POURED MY HEART AND SOUL INTO THIS.
I hope that I havent lost the respect that I think I gained from many of the people here because of all this. I have tried to be respectful to the members here and feel that I have made some friends among this board and I value that. I know there is more then just Grand Am's out there and that is why I seek out people with other cars. I would never see anything new or different if I didnt.

ALOT isn't a word. It's a lot. If you must use all caps, it would be A LOT... Sorry, it's late. :p

Just wondering, if you like Grand Am's so much, then why aren't you FastGrndAm? No flame intended, honestly-- just wondering. I think you explained it a year or so ago, I just forgot.

My view of the Contour/Grand Am thing (I do know that nobody asked for my view...): I have a Grand Am too. The 92-93 years with the HO Quad 4 are commonly considered to be the quickest Grand Am's (which isn't saying much), it's still a mid-high 15 second car at best. My CSVT is quicker, faster and just a better all-around car. It'll run a low 15, high 14 with perfect driving. As far as this event goes, a bunch of cars with even mild mods running high 14's at best, with the occasional high money extesively modded GA or Contique running what-- low 14's? just doesn't sound interesting to me. Exactly who are you beating on their own terms with those numbers? You realize that the slowest 2002 V8 FBody and Mustangs will run 14.1 right? Factor in the fact that they respond worlds better to even the smallest mods and you're left sucking their exhaust... Hell, I had a 92 Z28 that ran 14.1s all day on street radials with very mild mods (3.5 inch cat-back, K&Ns, sfc's, afpr) and I didn't even think that car was all that quick.

While I understand that drag racing and modifying your car is fun-- these cars just aren't impressive drag racing cars and take extensive modifications/money to be impressive on the strip. Should owners of these cars not modify and drag race them if they want? Hell no, that's not what I'm saying at all-- do whatever you want with your car, just I choose not to for the reasons stated above. I realize this event is and should be all about having fun. But it's a money/output equation for myself... I choose to spend it elsewhere on another vehicle, that's all. I just don't consider running a high 14 1/4 mile time all that exciting, personally. That said, good luck and have fun. I'm just a Contour and Grand Am owner that will sit this one out. (again, I know nobody asked...) peace smile

I am talking about going after the smaller displacement imports. Thatis what I meant about beating your chest like King Kong. Its easy wehn you have twice the displacement to go into a race acting all big and bad. Try taking them on on their own terms. When you beat them like that then its something to be proud. These types of cars CAN be made to go fast. There is a Neon up in Bufflo Grove that runs either low 10's or high 9's. It cost $$$ to make any car faster. As for my name. I like Trans Am's and I dont think that other name would have got me off to a good start here. smile

that neon is a complete different setup. nothing close to what any typical modded neon would be. rear wheel drive, not daily driven. its cool to see it but that a very rare car... assuming its the same neon ive seen before
