No. This has been asked a few times before. The Falcon is a TOTALLY different car. It is larger, RWD, has a longitudely mounted engine (4.0L I-6 or 5.4L V8) and is of course on a totally different platform unique to the Australian market.

Would that car, in terms of size, be more comparable to the Focus, Contour, or Taurus? At any rate, this style is what the newest Focus or Taurus designs should have been! I can't wait to see it in the US!

I don't think it is the equivalent of the focus or taurus, it's somewhat in a category of it's own. In my opinion it's closest match to a similar North American Ford car would probably be the Mustang - Judging by the tech spec's that is. With the exception that it probably handles better, and looks completely different.

Size wise it is like the Taurus, but it is like a Mustang underneath.
Up until the mid 70's the AUS Falcon was the same as the 60's US Falcon/Maverick platform, (Mad Max's car). Then in '79, instead of using the US Fox Fairmont, they borrowed Euro RWD platforms. Now it is a unique AUS platform.

Could this be a GTO competitor? 5.4 V8 and rear wheel drive makes it sould like it may have what it needs to square off against the GM up and coming hot car.

"5.4 V8 and rear wheel drive makes it sould like it may have what it needs to square off against the GM up and coming hot car." It will square off with GM, but only Down Under, against the GM Holden "Catera GTO". US won;t get it, unless the 2004 GTO takes off.
