both don't use any. although '96 tends to stink of burnt oil w/ mobil1 and doesn't stink w/ conventional oil.

I'm curious how much is 1l of Mobil1 in Moscow?

With over 140,000 miles, my Zetec does not consume any noticable amount of oil between changes.

Moonlight Blue 1996 Mercury Mystique GS , Zetec engine, ATX.  No mods. (Well, OK, one mod.  Before I got rid of my previous car, a 1994 Tempo, I swapped radios.  I liked the Tempo's radio better.  That counts as a mod, doesn't it?  I also kept one of my Tempo's wheels to use as a spare.  I hate those stupid ?compact? spares that come with modern cars.  Does this count as a mod?  If so, I guess I have two mods.  Replaced burned/melted blower switch and connector on 19 February 2002 with a 1P3T toggle switch from Marvac and a Molex connector from Rat Shack; I guess this now makes three mods.)

My 99 SVT uses about 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart between changes, which I do every 5,000km (3,000miles).

I have about 44,000km (27,000 miles) on it now, and it's used oil at that rate since I bought it with just over a 1,000 miles on it, so I'm not too concerned.

As a general rule of thumb, I've always heard from mechanics I've known over the past 30 years that anything up to one quart per 1,000 miles is acceptable, assuming the engine consumes oil at that rate consistently. If oil consumption is at a quart/1000 and rising, you likely have a problem.

I drain atleast 1-2oz per week from the PCV seperator. That equates to a 1/2 qt or more every oil change!!! (4 mos)

Normally that would be going straight into the UIM. mad Stupid Ford!

That is my only oil loss. It's been doing it since new due to Ford's idiotic design! IMO this is where everyone looses their oil too! (Outside of obvious leaks of course)

Mine does but I think it is because of a leak! 1qt every 3k or so! I seems to drop quickly and stop which leads me to believe it is an oil pan leak!

Mine uses about a half quart between changes (6 mo./5-7k miles). There's been a small oil run down the filter, even though it's tight every time. Oh well...

Blahhh - I'm suffering from the same "oil dribble down the filter" now. Although on mine, I noticed it was dripping onto the filter from up above somewhere. I could see a small drop on the exhaust manifold bottom mounting stud directly over the oil filter. Now where the h@ll it originally is coming from is beyond me, valve cover maybe? Although, that would be above the exhaust manifold and I'm seeing it only on the lower side. I suppose if the pressurized oil feed in the head gasket were leaking some it might ooze out there, but I don't even really want to think about that untill (hopefully never) the car starts hemoraghing.

I suggest you change the 'O' ring behind the oil cooler, its seals between the cooler and the block.....that will cure your drip/leak..... wink
