Is there any way to deactiavate the red Panic button on the factory remote? Accidentally activating it can be a real annoying pain in the arse!

Open the remote and remove the contact.

I accidentally activated mine at like midnight the other night (neighbors were happy I'm sure), then I couldn't seem to find the right button to shut it off. What do you know, you just gotta hit the panick button again.

I just took out the plastic button, left the rubber membrane/contact as is...haven't hit it since although I could if I tried hard enough...if you wanted, you could place a tiny piece of elec tape or paint over the contacts, too. I never understood the point of it, really....silly feature. "All windows open" would have been smarter...or maybe "all doors" instead of hitting one button twice...

Hmmm, All windows open? Rather than disconnecting the button, perhaps finding the reciever in the car and locating the relay/circuit that gets activated when that signal is received. Then, perhaps you could activate anything? All windows down (A timer circuit connected to four relays that open the power windows for say 3-5 seconds.) Or for the really ambitious, remote starter. Of course PATS would need bypassed in many cars, but it probably could be done. The problem I see with this is what if the panic functions are built into the receiver? Since the lights and horn "chirp" already when lock the vehicle, I suspect the "panic" function is built into the remote keyless entry box. Just some ideas. Chris Hightower, what can you come up with TB

Without the Panic button, how do you find your car in the Wal-Mart parking lot?

From the Ford manual:
A panic button allows a possible mugger that is following you to your car to quickly identify the location of said car and help time his attack to allow for the quickest possible assault and get-away...

I once accidentally set off the PANIC alarm when I was changing my oil. Keys were in my pocket and something in there hit the button. Yes, I have TWO factory horns and let me tell you, they are LOUD when you are under there. The keys now get tossed in the driver's seat when I am going to work under the car.
