I've had my E1 for almost 4 years and for the past several months the Detroit roads have been driving me crazy (more than usual, that is). Over most bumps (not just the severe ones) I feel a lot of wiggle at the rear end. I've had my front and rear alignment checked twice and it's fine. Any suggestion as to what might be causing this?

I bet your rear control arms are bent by someone not jacking the car up properly, i.e. from the suspension pieces rather than from the frame rails.
If you jack these cars by their suspension you will bend the "arms" VERY easily.
I could take a look at it if you make you way to Doug's Muffler (on Gratiot in clinton Township) on Saturday for our "CEG install/meet"

I had to fix a "F" up a nameless CEGer did to his orange Contour when he jaked it up by the lower rear control arms :p

Thanks for the advice. I don't think I'll be able to make to see you on Saturday - that's on the other side of the world from SL. Do you know any reputable places to get them fixed on the west side of Detroit? I'd probably buy replacements from the dealer and have someone install them and align it for me.

I took a turn to fast in the rain and spun out. I hit a few hard bumps along with itMy car had a back shimmy in the rear when I went to do a lane change. When I took it into the dealer the said it was a bent rear control arm. They bent it back for free but charged me for an alignment.
