my moonroof has been acting up lately so i decided to take her into the dealer (since i have a WarrantyGold warranty) and asked them to replace the motor - so they check it out, and told me that the entire assembly was shot and it was going to cost $1900+ to replace it all! doh!

Man, I am glad my SVT doesn't have a sunroof. The small view of the sky isn't worth the hassle....

I sounds to me like the dealer is taking advantage of the warranty company. I bought an extended warranty when I bought my car and it is not from Ford. When my moon roof quit working, the dealer replace the motor. The cost was about $450.00 for parts and $75.00 for labor. Quit a difference from what you where quoted.

Even if the motor is broken, a non opening sunroof is better than none. the extra light make the cockpit feel "roomier". I'm 6'4" and the SVT moonroof still has plenty of headroom..Had convertabeles up to now, could not consider a car without a sunroof at least - too claustraphobic.

450.00 FOR PARTS!!!!!! CarParts.com has the sunroof module priced at 161.00. I wonder what Bill J can get them for? By the way, the two major components that go bad (as per Webasto, the company the makes the sunroof) are the 12volt motor and the two plastic gears in the control module (motor is part of the control mod). Dispite what Ford will tell you, the mechanical parts (basic metal linkages) should last 10 years or more (as per Webasto).......Makes ya think.......I'm having the replacement gears made of metal (just like the high end aftermarket roof systems have)....Anyone interested? If so, I'll put together a "repair" kit with a new motor and gears
