An SVT wont completely walk away from a 2000 IS300. They are about even, leading me to believe that it was a driver-to-driver race.

Now, the 2002 models would make you probably retract your story. wink

Nice win by the way...I used to be able to edge out the IS300 with my Civic SI, haven't been up against one since I had the CSVT.

(Don't street race! laugh )

Congrats on your kill but just make sure the IS was racing smile People have run the IS300 MTs in the 14s, fully stock. According to many sites I have read the Contour SVT does 0-60 in 7.9s. Lexus' website lists the IS at doing 0-60 in 6.8s which is a very conservative number (ive done it in a lot less) This is a big difference and its quite possible my numbers are wrong. Its also quite possible that the kid in the IS cant drive for his life (the day i ran 14.9 someone with a similar car ran high 15s) Please dont take this as a flame. Im not a big Ford fan but I think Ford did on a good job on squeezing more HP out of the SVT and its a good car. If someone could list performance specs on the 2000 SVT MT and AT we could compare and see just how close they really are smile

Ford SVT's conservative numbers for the SVT Contour's acceleration are produced with the vehicle carrying ballast to simulate the vehicle's weight under average conditions...mostly full of fuel and with an extra passenger.

Further research on your part will reveal that, in fact, the SVT Contour produced much better numbers. Motor Trend's '98 prototype posted 60mph in 7.5 seconds, C&D's '98 production model ran it in 7.1, R&T's '98 production model did (I think) 7.2, and C&D's '99 models ran 60mph in 6.9, 1/4 in 15.4@92, and 130mph in 33 seconds, topping out anywhere from 141 to 143 mph.

Since no SVT Contour was ever available with automatic transmission, it's apples to oranges against a slushboxed IS300, though numerous bench racing comparisons are made anyway. Numerous tests have put the AT IS300 to 60mph in the low-mid 7's.

However, I would expect the 5-speed IS300 to nudge ahead of the SVT Contour, both being well driven.

I think some have recorded 14.9s on a stock 2000 as well...

Car-Stats.com Report for 1999 Ford Contour SVT
Obtained from C&D April, 1999
0-60: 6.9 Transmission: Manual
1/4 Mile: 15.4
1/4 Speed: 91
Additional Information

0-30:

Car-Stats.com Report for 2002 Lexus IS 300
Obtained from C&D February, 2002
0-60: 7.2 Transmission: Manual
1/4 Mile: 15.4
1/4 Speed: 90
Additional Information

0-30:

car-stats.com also said SVT 0-100 in 19.1, and Lexus in 19.2. I'd say both cars kick a$$, drivers race, if you had him by that much he can't drive, and no need to bench race as they are very similar.

Admin please don't lock thread, I'd like to hear more about this. Can you edit the original post to say track instead of street? wink

This was the first time I have run the car since I picked it up a couple of weeks ago...it was really entertaining. Plus, the fact that he probably paid 2 1/2 to 3 times what I did for less performance. Yeah, I know...it's a Lexus and I've got a Ford...but the SVT reigned supreme in the race... laugh laugh Not sure if it was the Tiptronic or manual trans...he looked to be shifting, but I'm not sure. Anyways...just thought I'd share the highlight of my day with you guys! laugh laugh
Hey save the moderators the trouble and just delete your own post and also we can save speed demon from getting in trouble. I don't know if it deletes the whole thread though. just press the little notebook with pencil on it at the top of your screen.
