Partly cause a chip for our car really only removes the rev limiter and helps a bit with the higher octane gas. Chips are really for cars that are running with BOOST, thats when those ponies really start kicking.

Superchips are all the rage because since 1996, everyone thinks the computer controls everything and that OEM's don't optimize the engine.

A custom chip is only good once you have other mods as the manufacturers do a pretty good job getting the most power out of the engine. Once you start changing the engine's performance characteristics, then you can change the controller. Automatics are a little different as many people just want to firm up the shifts.

Yep, I forgot to leave that point out. Only chip if you have done some performance mods to your car...even just a new intake and exhaust could benefit (a bit) from a new chip. Of course, if you have a car that comes with turbos...say an Audi S4...a chip would definately help even with no mods.
