Has this been thought of before?

For a cold air intake, making the air conditioning cool the air before it enters the engine!

Just a thought, tis' all!

Isn't that what an intercooler does ??

I'd imagine using the AC would kill your mileage too...

True, it will take away from your mileage, but the thought was to have it there when you want it and not on all the time!

Could it be done and cost less $$$ than the intercooler?

It is just an idea! :p

A/C takes a lot of power out of the motor too. Sorta seems like defeating it's own purpose. Cool thought though. wink

Intercooler lowers the temperature of an air charge by cooling it with outside air.

no, this idea wouldn't work because of the second law of thermodynamics. it's the same principle which makes perpetual machines impossible.

basically, rather converting engine power to heat removal then back, you'd be better off not running the A/C at all.

I never really thought of putting an intercooler on a car without F/I...would it even be worth it?

IMO, not really. for the time and trouble of plumbing an intercooler, it'd be easier and more effective to just relocating the filter.

After having thought about it more, it's too much trouble for the little gain you'd get.
