Hello fellow Michigan CEG'rs,
Went to chip burning/EFI specialist (Detroit speedworks) and the owner (Greg) went for a drive with me this morning with a complete OBD-II scanner, so he could check what codes were being thrown and what the engine was seeing during operation. Whenever I got on the throttle, part or full, the timing advance would be thrown back down to 0 or even less sometimes from being in the 20's or so. It would then go back to normal... eventually. We did our testing in 3rd/4rth/5th gear driving - he looked at knock sensor and it didnt show any counts the whole time driving, he reviewed IAT temp - read about 90 degrees and only went up went waiting at light. Engine temp stayed constant at 192 degress - so its something built in to the code. He theorized it was factory built in timing retard to prevent pinging when accelerating. He mentioned too that late model s/c lightnings have this as well but they have so much torque that you never notice the timing retard. What do you guys think about this? How does all this sound?, any experience? Any advice? Thanks in advance!
