Simply because of cost I would get a Sport/SE V6 MTX. However, you do lose the much better looks of the SVT, but the Sport/SE V6 MTX weighs less. It depends on what you want looks wise. So buying a Stock/SE V6 will sacrifice the nice body kit, but you will be able to get one with very lower miles than the SVT, theoretically improving reliability. And you should be able to spend some money on modifications to help get it closer in performance to the SVT.

Take it from a guy who already has a Mustang and a Contour...keep the Contour far away from the track...it was not built to be treated in that manner...that's why I have a Mustang. I have had 3 fox body Mustangs. At one point I didn't have a Mustang and treated the Contour like one...wrong move...these cars have to be babied if you want them to last...which is why I went out and bought another 'Stang. The Contour is a good car if you can work on it yourself...otherwise it can be a money pit.

FYI: If I were to do it again...I would NOT buy another Contour or new Ford for that matter. frown

pontiac's are awsome for reliability from my own experience that is. they are solid and powerful. if you can get your hands on a GTP and you dont mind a car that size that would be my choice. Otherwise to tell you the truth, I would never part with my 00' SVT!!!

I had a 98 SE V-6 ATX, which was a GREAT car. Just bought a 98.5 SVT which is, in my mind, a much better car. However, in being so, i'm looking at two main things--- fun to drive and good at insulting the ricers. The SE just simply doesn't compare with the high revving engine and SWEEEEEET exhaust note of the SVT, not to mention the fun of rowing the gears. The SE is a great deal, and performance wise is not too far off from the SVT, according to the "butt-dyno", but the SVT is far and away more fun to drive. Plus- the name carries more weight with the Civic crowd, and I can make them all feel like jacka$$es when people like my friend spend $22k on a modded up Civic that still sucks and can't come CLOSE to keeping up with me on a twisty road, or in a straight line for that matter. Bottom line, want something fast and cheap, get the SE, want something that you'll enjoy driving that much more, get the SVT.
