I needed a new key and fob for my new SVT and my local dealer wanted to stick me insane amounts of money for the parts and programming. But Bill is hooking me up with the parts and goldsmi hooked me up with super simple programming instructions which I feel should be in the How-To section:

I think this works on models through the '99 model year:

To program a new key:

Buy a PATS key and have it cut.

Using a currently working key, place it in the ignition and turn it ON until the dash lights come on.

Turn the ignition off, remove key.

Within 10(?)seconds, place the new key in the ignition, turn the ignition ON until the dash lights come on.

Wait a few seconds for the PATS LED to stop blinking,

Turn igniton off, remove key.

New key is now programmed.

This will work for up to 16 keys. After that you have to go to the dealer to have the memory reset.

For the Keyless Entry Transmitter:

Up to 4 transmitters can be programmed.

Gather up ALL of the units you want to use.

Find a paper clip, open it up and reform it into a U shape.

Empty your glove box, deflect the sides in, and drop it all the way down toward the floor.

Look at the harness behind the glove box. It runs along the cross brace. Look for a white, two pin, unterminated connector - it may be taped into the harness. This is the programming connector.

Turn the ignition ON so the dash lights come on.

Take your paper clip and insert it in to the two pin connector.

The horn will chirp to confirm that you are in programming mode.

Press any button on Transmitter #1.

Horn will chirp to confirm programming.

Press any button on Transmitter #2.

Horn will chirp to confirm programming.

Repeat for Transmitter #3 and #4 if applicable.

Remove paper clip from connector.

Turn igniton OFF, horn will chirp to confirm exit from programming mode.

Done.

Walk away happy that you saved a bundle 'o bucks!

Thanks guys! smile cool

I'm not sure about the transmitter instructions, but I know that the key programming instructions are in the owner's manual.

i was just wondering..i read in several places that you had to already have 2 working keys to do this..anyone know?i don't see why you would have to have 2,but that's what i read..i only have 1 hence the need to have a 2nd..and i don't want to have to spend a fortune at the dealer...

You guys with pre 2000 SVTs are lucky. What an ordeal to have additional keys programmed for the 2000 SVTs. When I bought my 2000 SVT it had only one key but the dealer agreed to supply additional key. The salesmen thought he would be able to do the same trick as the pre 2000 SVTs. Yeah right. Basically I had to have a technician reprogram an additional key. Of course I had to leave the car and when they got around to it they programmed the additional key. Well at least I have two keys!

If someone knows of an easier way to program keys on a 2000 SVT, I would like to hear about it.

Only the early 98's can have a key added with one existing programmed key. The late 98's and newer require TWO existing programmed keys to add any more keys. It is wise to add a third key BEFORE you lose a key so that you can avoid paying labor to have the car hooked up to the NGS or WDS to get into the programming mode.
