today i replaced the rear brake shoes on my escort. This car has ~113k on it. What a pain in the you know where to do them. After i broke a stud trying to take off the tire i had to go and buy another stud. I found out after breaking the stud that the lugs were over torqued (pitting visible on the seats of the lugs).

So i took the drums off and took a bunch of springs off to loosen the shoes, then put the new ones on.

Thank god everything worked out well and i dont have to do anything else..

If you have drums in back, i recommend asking someone how to pull them off because they are probably rusted on. It was pretty easy to take them off after i used a bolt and tightened it into the loosing holes...(2 on each drum to help take the drum off.)

Someday i will have a better ford (cough contour cough) with disks on all 4's.

I'm 1/2 way there...my Contour has drums...but there is no way I am going to spend money fixing them or replacing them when they need to be...so that leaves only one alternative...one safe one that is.

eh, im a poor college student, so for $20 for a set of rear shoes is not that bad...however, 3 hours of your time while drinking a beer while doing the brake job is just fine

Rock, you may wack it with a hammer, however 112k miles bro. There are two threaded holes in the drum, so i put a bolt through, tightened the bolts and pop.. off came the drum

Removing brake drums is much easier when a brake drum puller is used. I believe "Buffalo" is the brand name & it saves a lot of hassle compared to using a sledge etc......my .02....

Is the smoke alarm in your house also known as the "dinner bell"?
