How many of you have installed the dual mode dampener on your SVT? What band did you use? What are your reasons why you installed the dual mode dampener? If you do not have one installed, are there any reasons why?
Thanks

"What band did you use?" Care to explain that one better?
The Dual Mode Damper lessens the tendancy of the crank to "bounce" around in its bearings, which isn't good for bearing life. The difference you will notice is a much smoother feel in the higher revs.

I guess a dual mode dampener should be installed to eliminate "crank whip". What is crank whip? Can you hear it and if you can hear it what does it sound like? I think there are many different brands of dual mode dampeners. I can think of at least two, BAT and the Ford, unless they are both the same.
Thanks

The DMD reduces crank whip while an underdrive pully may increase your HP a few. Underdrive pulleys may INCREASE crank whip. So...just depends what you want. Maybe 3hp or engine life. It's up to you.

I guess a dual mode dampener should be installed to eliminate "crank whip". What is crank whip? Can you hear it and if you can hear it what does it sound like? "Crank whip" is crankshaft bending/flexing that occurs especially at high RPMs. It causes premature bearing wear which can lead to spun bearings and broken rods. It is a particular problem in the Duratec as I understand because Ford shortened the crank from the original (Porsche) design without propererly compensating for it. The dual mode damper is the compensation, developed by Ford's OEM damper supplier to fix the problem (it is now found as OEM on new Duratecs equipped with the MTX). You can feel crank whip..the Duratec is pretty smooth but install a DMD and you will realize that the high RPM band is now noticeably smoother. My advice,,just do it.
