In snow that is.... lol.

I was on my way to a club last night with my g/f and 3 of her friends rammed up and loaded in the car and we were headed toward D-Town and it was snowing pretty good n chit like around 10:30 or so. I am not really drivig that fast and driving cafrefully but that didnt matter. Even with all the weight in the car n stuff it still slid like a bitz right thru that intersuction down at nevada and ryan and I went to turn down streets to pick another person up down there (yes 6 people total in a SVT, talk about sittin on laps!) I slid out twice and almost ran it into a curb. The car just slides everywhere.

Spinning, spinning spinning....

Thats all the tires do in snow. Probably went thru a 1/4 tank of 94 octane just in trying to get the tires to grip on certain pavements. unluckily no salt trucks were out and most of the roads I was on were dead and hardly anyone driven on them previous.

Hey Trapps, I defintely understand you now about when you took your SVT in the snow for the first time, I'm gunna take your advise.

Rara, Better changed out those tires! Your even in more of a disadvantage for not ever driving in it either!

So it looks like blizzaks or maybe(?) KDWS might have to go on the rims.

Maybe I should have bought a AWD car instead.

Doug,

I got a set of 15" Yokahama Guardex 600 snows on cheap steel wheels, w/ WHEEL COVERS! (I can hardly contain myself over those wheel covers !!!!! ) from Tirerack w/ fedex 2-day for $433. I should be getting them today (please let them show up!! I have 770 miles to drive tonight!) they won't be pretty, but they should be more than adequate around here.
I found it would end up being cheaper this way than to get Blizzaks or something else mounted on the stock wheels, and this way I can keep my stocks from getting all screwed up, oh and they might stay clean for more than 2 days if I wash them while they are off the car

It's all about balance.

cool rara, I might have to look into something like that.

This is what I will do. I will buy those 15" rims with snow tires and then I can go to PEP BOYZ and buy some of those awesome CHROME wheel covers and look cool like all the kids around here!!!!

Good snow tires for Detroit (Hey we dont get as much as GR, Kzoo 7 other points west).

Bridgestone WT05, Blizzak
Goodyear UltraGrip
Dunlop Wintersport

I run WT05's and like the combination of snow/ice performance and dry road performance. They are a compromise to the best choice for snow and ice Blizzaks.

Good Luck to all in the snow, and be glad we don't have AirKnights problems in Buffalo. (AirKnight - sorry agin if you see this)

I'll just be careful with the stock tires. Way I figure, I spent my first winter (last year) with a 2WD LWB Ranger without limited slip and never had much of a problem. I figure if I can be careful with that vehicle, a FWD car (even with tires that are a little better than slicks) should be a lot better.
