Well, I spent all day Monday moving from Lawrence to my new apartment in OP since I graduated on Sunday. Anyways, after a long day of moving using my mom's E-150, I got in my car at about 10:30 and back out of my driveway to head home and drink a beer, when I hear this loud bang and pop. It turns out that my front right spring, yes spring, broke in two and shot all the way down to my a-arm, and on its way it ripped hole in the side of the tire and popped it. I'm happy I wasn't driving fast, or I could have hurt myself. Has this ever happened to anyone before?

I believe there is a recall out for this. I think it is either the spring or the perch rusts out and gives out like you described. Check with Ford, yes even though you are probably out of warranty. Take this to the general forums too, as you will get more infor.

It was only on the early SVTs and pretty much all Contours up to mid 98/99.

Sounds like Ford needs to buy you a set of Eibachs ehhh?
