I just purchased a 96 Mystique 5 sp./V6 to replace a Mystique my son wrecked. The car is great and is in excellent condition. The shifter feels, for lack of a better term, a little rubbery. It is not as crisp as my 00 SVT. Its not really a problem but feels different. I remember Ford came out with a new transmission fluid at some point. Can anyone tell me whether changing the fluid might help and what should I ask for?

I think the older MTX contiques were "rod shift" It feels different than the cable shift in the SVT, that's probably what you're feeling.

most likely the different shift feel is just the diffferent type of linkage. I have driven both quite a bit (parents 95 mystique, my 2000 SE) and it seems like whatever one I drive the most recently I like better so try driving it quite a bit then going back to your SVT and see if the SVT feels funny then.

Thanks for the replies. I'll enjoying rowing the gears in both of these great cars!
