i changed my tranny fluid last may and put on about 15k since. i admit i don't check the fluid as often as i should. i checked it and it looks almost brown but not burnt. From now on i'm going to change 4 qts with every oil change. 4 qts is what comes out from the plug.
i have a hayes manual and they recommend drain, fill, drain, and fill again. i think changing 4 qts every oil change is better. it's easy to get to the plug and you only need a 3/8 ratchet with no socket.

Wait a sec, I just got this car, and I'll admit I don't know anything about it. How often should I be changing the tranny fluid? Do I do that with a pan drop, or is there just a drain plug for that? Thanks!

It is reccomended to change your tranny fluid every 2 years. Check the level every 3 months.

My suggestion is to take your car to a shop that has a transmission flushing machine and have a complete fluid change done. These machines remove about 99% of the old fluid. Then you should do this every 2 years. This is what I do. Don't worry about the tranny filter as it is not acceseble unless you dismantle the tranny.

i dont know if i would change the fluid that often...probably wouldn't hurt but the fluid is supposedly made to last 15-30k miles i believe...its your car and up to you...changing that often though may wear out the drain plug

as far as the power flush goes i thought it was a great idea....til i did it and my tranny went...a few others i believe have had trouble show up after using the powerflush...the suggested way i've heard to do it safely would be to drain, fill...drive for a short time or a day or so then drain and fill again

whatever u do dont let jiffy lube touch it wink

How many miles did you have on the car when you got the power flush done? The only time i have seen a power flush kill a tranny is when it is done on a car with high miles (100,000 or better) that never had a tranny fluid change done. As long as you do it periodically, a power flush should not damage the tranny. Change the fluid once a year, and power flush once every two years, unless you are like me and drive over 35,000 miles a year.

First of all the recommended interval for ATX service is 30,000 miles.
It MUST be serviced by your FORD Dealer.
They are the only ones with the correct ATX Flushing equipment to take care of this procedure.
Replacing 4 quarts every 3,000 miles doesn't do diddly.
There are approx 10.5 quarts of fluid in your ATX.

Flushing insures that ALL of the fluid is removed and replaced with fresh fluid.
Flushing should also be done every 15,000 miles.
If you wait for every 30,000 miles you will have problems.

Take it from me and search for my ATX posts if you want to read my story.
