Ok my water pump pulley is pushed on about an inch to far and I need to get it to come out. Has anyone rented a puller that would be able to get the water pump pulley off. I went to my local auto parts store and they don't have one that will work. Throw out any ideas because I really wanted to get this SVT engine in today.

Thanks,
Chris

Here are a few pics so you can figure out what I mean:

Something isn't right in there. There really isn't any way to move that pulley that far in unless someone beat it with a hammer or something. Everything should line up just fine if that was a complete motor you bought. Are you sure that the cams are in the right location in the bearing mounts in the head?

I wouldn't try to use a puller to get the WP into the right location. Proper way would be to support the pulley all around and press the shaft down. I'd have a machine shop probably look at this one. If you bend the pulley at all with a regular 3 jaw puller (which would be extremely easy) your belt will not lost very long and shred itself repeatedly from the pulley being out of whack.

HTH and sorry for the bad diagnosis,

Rick

How did it get so rusty too???
That's pretty unreal for an engine only a few years old and under a hood.

Did you get to see the car it came out of? Maybe massive front end damage and the place banged on another pulley from an older Duratec???

Like Buckshot said. It takes a special press to install and remove those and the cam has to be out of the engine.

Something definitely isn't right...

Pic 2 seems to show wp pulley to far out (ie towards driver's side). I can't see wp shaft on my cars and with two wp replacements in May I've become very familiar with this component.
New wp maybe the way to go.
