Hey does anyone remember those clear bras? I was thinking they were like plastic or something. You can get them for your front bumper and hood, and also for the side of the car. I think there was a group buy several months ago on these.. I just cant remember what they were called. I tried searching but came up with nothing. Does anyone remember?

I know there is a 3M product that goes on clear but it is like paint or something. I have seen it at the Nissan dealerships. It goes on the leading edge of the hood and is about 14"-16" wide. You might want to look into it.

3M is right. It is often referred to as Rock or Stone Guard. The product comes in various lengths and thickness depending on the application and can be applied to hood, bumper, fenders, foglights, side mirrors etc.

Both of my vehicles are protected. Way better than car bras/masks, those things scratch your paint and look hideous. The 3M will protect and keep a nice clean look. I highly recommend you call a tint shop, they will likely be able to help you out. About $75.00 Cdn for my SVT (12" of hood and arched the front fenders around the headlights).

I seem to remember some company at one time selling a bra that was molded to the shape of the car that was made out of lexan... I haven't seen it in a few years though.... They used small double sided suction cups to hold it on, so it had no physical contact.

Seemed like a really good idea that was almost bullet proof... literally!

Anyone remember that particular kind of bra?

Cheers,

3M Scotchcal products are very popular for IS300's because the paint is very soft. A friend of mine got it for his IS300 and loves it. I have some damage to my bumber that will get replaced and painted (as well as my hood) and I intend to get someform of protection for it immediately afterwards. The major angle you can see the product on the vehicle is when standing next to a front tire looking on the hood - you can see where the hood protection stops. But, step back a few feet and it's gone unless the car is dusty as the dust settles at the end of the protection film.

Sold under the following brands:

Stongard
Xpel
Invicta-Shield

I personally have not decided which I will buy. The Stongard is appears to be the best for my car as it is thicker than the Xpel (Invicta-sheld unknown thickness) and uses the most solid pieces. For example the bumper is a single piece so you are sure to see no lines, but installation is harder (or more expensive) and the material costs more. But it is about $150 more than either of the other brands plus installation is about $300 for the full kit. I'm a pretty cheap person so I may get the Invicta-shield kit as it comes with the supplies to do it myself. I plan to have my car repairs within a month and the car will be parked until I get it protected. I will report decisions and results as well as pictures when completed.

I've put xpel headlight guards and fog light guards on my wife's '02 Envoy. The stuff is great. It stays cloudy, blotchy and rather ugly for about 2-3 weeks, but after that the moisture evaporates/dissapates and it's smooth sailing. The stuff really is rock proof, and it's a good way to save you from getting cracked lens assemblies (nowadays these things run into the $100's of dollars on pretty much any car...).

I decided not to put it on the hood and bumper given the looks of it. It is clear, but there's a definite edge to the stuff that is easily visible, which I would not like on the paint. It's great on headlights and such, but again, I didn't think it would look too hot on paint. I purchased a bra for the car instead(which I only put on when we are making long highway trips in the car).

FWIW.

Are any of these products removable once applied? Can you get a large enough piece to do the entire hood?

I'm a cheap SOB and will buy the Invicta-Shield for $108 shipped. I just need #3,4,and 5. That is where my chips (like 100) are.
