Philip: Fill gas tank, don't squeeze in any extra gas after nozzle shuts itself off. Reset tripometer or record mileage if you have no tripometer. Drive until it's time to fill up again. For greatest accuracy, fill up at same pump you used the first time. Again fill tank till the nozzle shuts off, and record both the number of gallons the tank took to fill and the number of miles you have driven. Divide the number of miles by the number of gallons, and there you go!

Cheers,
Jay

~24mpg in mixed driving. Jack rabbit starts, 75-85mph cruise, redline often & how, highly modded.

I have crested 30mpg in straight highway driving.

No complaints here. laugh

Adjusted for US gallons, I see 20-23 mpg on the commute to work (60% city, 40% highway). During this work commute, my secondaries are probably never ever open (tame driver, shift by 3500 rpm).

In city driving, I dip below 20 mpg. Secondaries also never open.

In pure highway driving, 25-28 mpg is normal. Been up to 31 mpg several times, though.

It seems that if I drive slightly more enthusiastically on the daily commute, (shift above 4k) the mileage does not drop, it actually improves. But if I stick my foot in it frequently, the mileage plummets. Hauling people or towing makes the mpg drop like a rock.

You guys with poor mileage...do you drive with your windows down in the summer? That is a huge drag.

Kerry

Mine is 98 E0 SVT (50100mi)running 92octane gas with mobile1 5W-30
1. mostly stop and go city driving with some moderate speed local driving(up to 40-50mph)-25mpg
2. half highway(up to 80-85mph) half local drive - 29mpg
3.Pure highway drive - not done yet but my guess is over 30mpg

I used to have Mystique with duratec ATX, running 87 octane mobile1 5W-30

I had 26mpg at best on almost pure highway driving and mixed or city driving about 23mpg.

I guess MTX has significantly better gas mileage, if premium gas doesn't do any good on mileage.

I get 16-17MPG even when I'm not flooring it all the time. If I start flooring the car it goes down to 15. I just changed the fuel filter and hopefully that'll do it? Should I change the air filter too?

If it's dirty then it might need to be changed. But i don't think moderately dirty filter affect that much on gas mileage. Your gas mileage seems a lot lower than normal. How's your coolant temperature reading? If it's on lower side you might need to change thermostat - if it's stuck open then it gives ECU wrong signal telling the engine temp is low, causing the fuel mixture stay rich. If it's not your problem, may be some minor tune-up? (spark plugs, wire, throttle body cleaning) I found out even relatively new engine can have gummed up throttlebody due to the EGR.
My suggestion may not be sufficient...i am sure someone will give more feedback.

My SVT gets about 20, with a combination of highway/city driving, but not a lot of stop-and-go.

This came as a shock when I first bought the car, as my last car was a Nissan Sentra ('92 XE, MTX) that got 35 normally, soaring as high as 45 on road trips. The SVT is well worth the extra gas bill; I was sick of driving an econobox. laugh

P.S.--I still haven't taken my CSVT on a road trip yet, but that'll change next month.

Almost exactly what I got with my SVT under similar circumstances.

Im getting about 20 - 22mpg in the city and 28 on the highway. It beats the hell out of the 14mpg I got when I had my Ranger. I'm saving money, even if I have to use premium gas. laugh
