Hi,

I had trouble too. It turned out to be a very "picky" serial port issue. I tried everything possible to get it to connect, and I'm no computer illiterate either. Finally got it to work on the THIRD computer I tried. I must of dumped a half dozen components freeing up IRQ's, trying COM's 1 thru 4, tweaking the BIOS...nothing would work on the first two computers. Finally on the third it connected first try like it was "no thing"...Aaaarrrrgggg!
My only advice is to look at a serial port issue and maybe try another computer if possible.

What errors or results is it giving you?

I've never had a problem with the software or the cable.

I'd double check to make sure you have the connector in tightly.
You have entered the correct pass code.
Your laptop/software are trying to connect through the same port.

Me and JVT had the same issue on my laptop. It will finally connect after like 3 tries.

And the cable should have come with a pass code. On your first attempt to connect to the car, hit cancle and the screen for the passcode should pop up.

Guess you didn't get a passcode then?

Alex Peper should have sent you an email with the software ID (aka passcode) when you bought the product.

Once you have the software ID, when you choose the Connect menu option, hit the Cancel button and then don't save anything. A dialog will then come up that asks for the sofware ID. Enter it in and it should automatically reconnect.

I'll bet that you don't have the software configured to try using the PWM protocol.  You hook it up to an ISO car, and it tries to connect using ISO, and succeeds. You hook it up to a PWM car, and it keeps trying to connect using ISO, and it fails.

On the main menu, go to Options?>Gateway.  Go to the ?Protocol? tab on the resulting dialog.  Make sure that the ?Ford PWM? box is checked.  I bet it's not.

Moonlight Blue 1996 Mercury Mystique GS , Zetec engine, ATX.  No mods. (Well, OK, one mod.  Before I got rid of my previous car, a 1994 Tempo, I swapped radios.  I liked the Tempo's radio better.  That counts as a mod, doesn't it?  I also kept one of my Tempo's wheels to use as a spare.  I hate those stupid ?compact? spares that come with modern cars.  Does this count as a mod?  If so, I guess I have two mods.  Replaced burned/melted blower switch and connector on 19 February 2002 with a 1P3T toggle switch from Marvac and a Molex connector from Rat Shack; I guess this now makes three mods.)
