(pardon the obvious title pun) It seems one of the few remaining race tracks in SoCal & the only one left in San Diego, has been granted a temporary reprieve from demolition according to this article: http://www.uniontrib.com/news/northcounty/20011220-9999_1mc20raceway.html Unfortunately, the implication is that Carlsbad Raceway will ultimately join such legendary tracks as Lions, Irwindale, Bakersfield, Riverside, Ontario & others that have fallen victim to urban sprawl & land hungry developers.

Well, it's kind of a drive for you SD guys, but I know that Fontana has a 1/4 mile track there, I just don't know the current schedule for the street legal drags, and the Irwindale Speedway has an 1/8 mile on Thursday and Saturday nights, IIRC.

Ya and Qualmmcom stadum has the 1/8 mile too on sats. Its like $5 to watch and $10 or so to race, but watch out right after the 1/8 mile marker, there a killer right or left turn? that I've seen people wipe out!
