A friend of mine, (female, blonde, airhead) made a comment that it was stupid for me to put mods onto my Contour SE (2.5, duratec, MTX, KKM intake, synthetic trans fluid cockail...diablochip to come). She has a 98 Mustang convertable ATX (3.8L 4 speed, no mods), a present for her 16th birthday. I think i can smoke her car, but im doing my homework, so i wont get smoked by a woman. Let's hear some kill stories, or some decent advice. Thx.

No offense to any stang owners, but look at the power to weight ratio's of both cars. As far as I can remember, the 3.8 was thrwing about 190 HP at the flywheel. That comes up to what 150-160 atthe wheels. I think the stang is alot heavier than the tour, too.

Yeah, the pushrods really hurt the top power. Sadly, ford cannot make a decent pushrod engine, those props go to Chevy. (350,383, 427, 454, 502..)

Anybody encountered this race? how about times on the cars? 0-60 or 1320?

I beat a V6 Stang 'Vert in my 87 LeSabre a few months back, and it is a GM 3.8L FWD ATX car, so a MTX Duratec Contour should handily win.

I am a current stang GT (2000 model) owner and a former CSVT owner. I've ridden in/driven the 3.8, the 5.0 and the 4.6L stangs...I also used to drag race the CSVT...let me tell ya....

You will flat OWN that little six pot stang..its heavy and has a non-performing auto tranny, especially if your car happens to be a five speed. Heck, you may even be able to compete against a stock 4.6L 98 vert auto for that matter. If your car is an auto....well I dunno cause I've never ridden in an automatic 2.5 SE tour..

Let's put this into perspective though...the Contour is light and the Duratec is very efficient...the v-6 stang ragtop really competes against such open air sofas as the sebring convertible and the sunfire convertible...its just a fun little coupe but has no real sport.

In my 99 CSVT, I once raced a 97 or 98 v-g stang 5 speed with intake, exhaust, and a 50 shot on the dragstrip. I still beat it by over half a second...part of that could be driver error, but don't fear an automatic, convertible v-6 stang with some girlie girl driver....just waste that car and get it over with.

BTW, you should do something like this to V-6 camaros too.

Could my zetec(after some mods) ever beat a base 00 stang? I would love to beat this guy at work, but he'll be moddin' his stang quicker than i can mod my tour, so i guess it'll never happen.

The 98 Mustang V6 is rated at 140Hp. 99+ is rated at 192Hp and is no slouch if teamed with a MTX. I recall MM&FF got one to doa 15.0 in 1/4 a while back.
I find that time impossible with most owners running high 15's stock.

Neat thing is ther is a bunch of aftermarket for the car. You can strap on a Vortec and push 270RWHP on a 99V6 for as little as $3200.

I'm in the market for a 95-97 V6 5spd 'vert for a nice cruiser that I can sport up. I need the backseat and the cheap wink insurance!
