ok well i know this topic has been posted previously.. and yes I did a search, and came up empty handed. I only saw once here that someone said they use tire foam to clean the engine bay.. sooo.. i was wondering if this was a safe idea since i picked up a nice big can of armor-all tire foam today while i loaded up on synthetic oil & filter... any help would be greatly appreciated.. please let's keep flaming to a minimum.. I'm sensitive  but seriously..aside from the obvious(which i'm sure will be quoted) that it is made for tires, will this work? and if so what do i need to cover up to prevent damage? THANKS laugh smile

I think they meant CD2, not tire foam. Although, tire foam would probably work just fine. At the minimum, it would protect all your belts and hoses.

I just did this the other day.. Used Armor-All Handi-Wipes, because it's what I had handy at the time. Came out great, almost showroom fresh.. There are some other sprays that you can spray down your compartment with, and is probably easier to apply, but I didn't have any of it. Rubber's rubber, so I don't see why your tire stuff shouldn't work.

I used Gunk stuff (Foamy Engine Bright or something like that) on my Jetta and it ate all the oil off the block and all the dirt came off the hoses and it looked like new, I just coated it with this stuff and hosed it off after watching the Simpsons, it looked spanktastic. Then the car got stolen a week later frown

"simple green" degreaser is good. Spray it on, let it sit for a few minutes, then hose off with a power hose gently, maybe stand 4 or 5 feet back rom the car when spraying and don't aim the spray directly at your coil pack.

This works for me.

Good luck.

I used the CD2 treatment last summer and it worked absolutely wonderful!! Comes with two cans, one is the degreaser/cleaner and the other is a dressing/conditioner. Both aerosol and there was plenty to do everything. Just spray the first, drive to the car wash, wash most of the car and then hose down the engine bay. I let the engine cool very well before I sprayed the dressing though.

What I used to do when I detailed cars was to first spray the engine down with a degreaser, something like Simple Green, and flush it off with a pressure washer. Make sure you keep the engine RUNNING, keep water away from electronics. After it has air dryed, spray the entire engine down with Armor All. It is important to wash the engine before buffing and waxing, because the degreaser will leave streaks in the paint, and these will come right out with the buffing.
