"That being said, the SVT is a far more rounded and polished package.... and not just because it's a comfortable and practical 4-seater. The way it combines athletic handling with supple ride verges on the miraculous!"

Thats enough for me!

Oh and a GSR is in no way a Type-R and don't you forget it! laugh

That was already posted on Ford Contour.Org a while back. Interesting article though - Although the measurements are in km/h.

Oh I'm well aware my car is not a Type-R. But it's still fast enough for my tastes. smile

Pretty good review overall. True the SVT gets a bit floaty at >100 MPH velocities when you hit bumps. I think the 99+ SVT with more shock valving would have helped and I'm not sure what the brake issue was? Main thing I take issue with is the comments on sound. I'm sorry but the SVT sounds MUCH better than the ITR. "Low tech burbbling" ...these guys need to check out some more 4 cam motors. wink

We can all tell this is a Canadian-based publication, thats for sure! Regardless, the information is helpful considering these two cars are fierce rivals. In fact, I never realized the SVT was that close a competitor to the Type R. Very cool read.

I agree with this!

But my 98 is probably the most stable car I have ever been in at 100+...not sure what there talking about there.

Of course I haven't driven in a Type R?

I like the comment from the SVT engineer regarding the reason for the hopped up 2.5L instead of the 3.0L from the Taurus. "Anybody can drop in a bigger motor for more power..." Sorry I would like my SVT even more if it came with the 3L. wink

My SVT is rock solid at speeds well above 100mph. (closed track, professional driver, contents may settle disclaimer)
It's composure was astounding. It was like this even stock.

The only minor flaws noticed when stock was the slight body lift during transitions & harsh power off oversteer. Poly bushings took care of the lift & the Aussie bar everything else and then some.

I too like people comparing the ITR to the 4-door SVT. laugh Says a lot for our car to be compared to basically a one-off 2 door FWD race car.

...and Dan. Absolutely! The Duratec sounds infinitely better then any Honda/Acura I have heard. With maybe the NSX aside. I haven't heard one lately though so... wink

I showed that article to my friend with a Type-R. He agreed with everything in it except the engine noise thing. He, and everyone else, loves the sound of my engine. Who knows what they were smokin?
