I'm reading the Haynes manual about the transaxle and it talks about Economy and Sport mode but does not tell you how to change the mode.
Does anyone know how to change the mode?
From the manual;
"There are two operational modes (Economy and Sport). With the Economy mode selected, gear changes occur at low engine speeds, whereas with the Sport mode selected, the changes occur at high engine speeds."
It would be cool if someone knew how to switch the CD4E to Sport mode.

Interesting...And I saw a 'Sport' light on the dash too yesterday next to the O/D light.
Midnight Red '95 Contour SE ATX Just completed the lighted moonroof switch mod. Its great! www.webcentrix.org/contour_se.html "The whole purpose of a car is not to go fast it's to get from point A to B, and if you can afford it, to get from point A to B with some sense of style." As seen on the Ricecop.com boards

I think it has to do with how far the gas pedal is pushed. Changes modes by itself. When you have the pedal all the way down, the motor revs to redline, when you dont, it shifts sooner. Correct me if Im wrong, someone.

That is a typical ATX for you.. in any car. You push it harder, it waits longer... That isn't what they are referring to, I don't believe.
BTW: nice sig VA_Tech. Style is what its all about.

my ex had a 91 probe with economy and sport modes which was activated by pressing a button on the gear **** lever
i think on these cars the overdrive is basically the same thing...
with o.d on u're in econo mode with it off u're in sport mode
i dont have a sport mode button or light per se but usually just click in and out of od as needed

The Mondeo's have both an Overdrive and Sport Mode switch... so they seem to be two different things.

I think the Haynes' wording is off. I think the stuff in the trans section refers to O/D on/off (even though they say "Economy" and "Sport"). The Mondies had/have a "Sport" setting for the suspension. Computer actively sets the shocks stiffer for "sporty"driving and you can turn it on and off. Like we would ever drive around with that off if we had it. :rolleyes:
Check out the Suspension chapter; they have a few mentions of it in there.

On the 1995 EEC-IV PCM, there is a pin that is unused in the US version that is what the economy/sport switch is connected to. I doubt that the software to support it is in the '95 PCM, let alone the 96-newer EEC-V PCMs. Not that you could even find out, since the design of the EEC-IV connector on the '95 makes it difficult, if not impossible, to add female terminals. At best you'd have to do some drilling... Brian
