This site has been very helpful to many people, [including me].
I feel the suggestions to turn this site into a membership [monthly rate] service - are wise and workable.
Just a small fee - perhaps $5 a month, would greatly eliminate frivolous traffic. At the same time it would improve the quality, not to mention the germaneness of all the posts etc..
I currently have close friends who run a small ISP, with available bandwidth. If we compensate appropriately, I am sure he will wave any collocation fee and allow contour.org to thrive.
Even if we only retain approximately 25 people, we are still looking at $125 per month, I imagine we could do even better..
I am a infrequent users of contour.org, however believe [at least for the foreseeable future 2+ yrs, contour.org should live.
Your thoughts Contour.org admins?
Regards,
Bw.

I got my 'tour about two months ago. About three weeks ago a coworker told me about this site. Since then my work ethic has dropped severely. I come home from work around 6 pm, get online, and generally stay oline until 11:30 or 12. This place has been more helpful than any magazine could ever be. Five bucks a month? Hell, I got that under my couch. Count me in!

I'd rather pay 20 or 30 bucks a year, I don't want to pay monthly...

Monthly or Year - Concept is still the same, Membership is the key, - force commitment upfront.

Some of the "frivolous traffic" we get rid of might be some of the most knowledgable and helpful people.

Unfortunately, it has already been decided that contour.org can't continue to exist in its present form.
Certainly, the opportunity to come and go freely is optimal, but that simple isn't a option [so we are told].
Donations are fine, however that often results in a few carrying the load for the many...
A membership system [at least in some fashion] seems to be the fairest way to approach the issue of funding.
Force simply implies - a necessary requirement. We all recognize that gap that exists between promising money and actually delivering such.

I think that having a membership fee is one way to keep the site alive. The fees are something that may be taxable which can make things more complicated for the site's adminstration.
This is something that needs to be carefully considdered.
I would gladly make a membership payment. I also agree with the idea of a yearly payment, rather than monthly installments.
