As per the norm I have ghettoized my car one more way.
"Ahem" I will be strapping on 3 16" wheels late this afternoon around 8pm and retiring the 3 17" wheels to the "ghetto" back porch of mine!
On to the suspension beacause I know ya'll care so freakin much!
2-weeks ago while in Sac-town I brought my Prothane brackets and weld in backing plates to my Mom's house. My Dad is curretnly homeless and was crashing there for a few weeks. He brought all his tools with him, but no MIG welder. He just has electric and gas setups.
My Dad takes a look at the brackets at balks, we then inspect the underside of the SVT and I describe to him the setup. We remove one of the Ford brackets. He is not impressed. He says that the weld in brackets wont really help unless welded to the subframe, not the bracket mount as they were designed too. Hence the reason people have torn even the weld in bracket from the bracket mount.
He basically give me the back in my days speech and proceeds to tell me I shoud be driving a Nova/Chevelle if I want to go fast. I explain handling and he spits some Copenhagen juice on my toe
OK that part really didnt happen but it made ya laugh
He basically gives me the lets rig this biatch like nobodys business. He says this is the way people out on Stockton Blvd. would do it and since my car is ghettoriffic I really shouldnt care.
So we proceed to grind part of the prothane braket off and smooth it out so it does not make contact with the tank. (drivers side)
We then place a 1" long 1/4" bolt into top side ofthe bracket mount and then replace the stock bolt on the other side. Using a flat washer on top, flat & split washer on bottom with a nut to all hold in on tight.
I completed this set-up this weekend by doing the passenger side.
I must say I have no clunk. A bit fearful there is not enough holding the prothane bracket up but after seeing my 2nd set of Ford brackets I have more faith in my set up. My old Ford brackets were easily traveling 1/2" on each side.
