Ok, so I stop by my local Sears to pick up a Craftsman 2-1/4 ton floor jack w/2 jack stands.(On sale at Sears for $29.99 until 6/16). I have the merchandise attendant wheel the package out to my SVT and he says, "So, are these cars really that fast?" I say,"Yea, they're pretty quick." He says,"Hmm..." He looks at my car again and says, "This is a four cylinder right?" I go, "Nope, 2.5 liter, 24 valve six." He says, "Oh, I thought all contours were four cylinders and the SVT's were just hopped up four's." :rolleyes: I go, "Nope they are hopped up six's." Then this guy says, "So, these run about 13 grand right?." "What, new?" I say. "Yea", he says. Politely I say, "Well, actually these stickerd at over 23 grand brand new." By then he had put the box in my trunk and all he says was. "Well, they look interesting anyway."

What the heck? Ford did such a crappy marketing job with these cars I want to puke! It's nice to know that the general public thinks I'm driving around in a $13k hopped up four banger. :rolleyes:

yeah no crap. But think of it this way the only people who matter are the people in here and we all know what it is
We appreciate are cars for what they are, i could give a f what other people think. im happy.

i dont have to go through the insult such as that as u svt owners may go through...and since its only as se i haven't had too many negative comments or backhanded compliments...other than people saying my car is cute

but ford truely did a horrible marketing job....i think fords deeper problem is that they often make cars that they dont know how to market

Just remember any time somebody pulls up next to you, they think you have a hopped up 4. When you hand it to them, then maybe they'll respect the Contour.

Hey look on the bright side, when people tell you your car is cute, you can proceed to inform them about how quick it is. When people call the ZX5 cute, I have to sit there and take it, because if I even started talking about the stock zetec I would get laughed at so hard people would crap thier pants...

Who in their right mind would call a Focus cute??? I have a couple descriptive terms for it, but this is a family site...

Also I like the WTFWT looks I get from people.

It normally ends with people asking where you got the body kit, who makes the car, and/or Ford/SVT didn't make those...

They must be morons....they have professionals handling all this stuff,,close to the year 2000 when they came out, and they screw it up,,which means that the wheels dont turn up there at Ford. Why is it that some companies make consistently better decisions...Maybe they arent hiring the best people they can,,,too much politics and friends and nepotism maybe...
I never saw Boeing mess up marketing...

This has been discussed before. The Contour is more closely associated with a Ford Escort...an inexpensive economy car. And yes, the marketing was pathetic.
