IIRC the gauges need to be from the same year and same engine. Are you certain they are?

Aside from being illegal, it sounds like a fun thing to do. The ONLY legal way to get a 'factory' cluster is to have it installed IN THE FACTORY when it is new. The service parts are different so that it is obvious that the cluster (and therefore the odometer) is not original.

Haven't others successfully swapped clusters?
Look in the Zetec Engine section, they have a few posters who have added a tach to the Dash.
2000 SE fleet, V6, ATX, ABS, no spoiler, T-Green/tan. Built 01/2000 in MO. Added 12 spoke factory SE rims, K&N. Biggest mod: ESP Plan!

yes i have done the swap and mine works fine... 96 zetec and YES I know my name is misleading duh i'll get around to it someday... anyway i switched mine and i have the original and i was wondering why people have such a problem with it (ie. illegal) the one in my car now is much lower in od. then the orig. so why cant i just have it turned ahead to make it correct... i try to do the correct thing and it just doesnt work out.. ohh well... that's my 2cents
