Hey everyone. Well, this thread should put to rest any and all remaining questions from any other thread that has dealt with DRLs, otherwise known as Daytime Running Lights. A series of helpful pictures with captions follow. laugh

Here is the location of the Daytime Running Light Relay. It's inside the Power Distribution box, located just behind the driver's-side headlight.

Here you can see the Daytime Running Light Relay (DRL Relay). It's the big white rectangular block indicated.

Here's another view of the DRL Relay.

Pulling the Daytime Running Light relay will disable your daytime running lights, AS WELL AS YOUR DRIVER'S SIDE HIGH BEAM. In order to re-enable your driver's side high beam, you must insert a shorting bar between two holes of the DRL Relay socket. Basically, you need to allow electricity to flow between two of the sockets by inserting a conductor. More on that later. Conversely, if you don't have daytime running lights, but wish to enable them, all you have to do is purchase a DRL relay and insert it into the socket in place of the shorting bar.

Here's a close-up of the DRL socket. And if anybody was wondering why I was posting this, here's where you get to find out: In Toronto, DRLs are mandatory, but I want to disable mine and still have fully functional high beams. So I need to know which two holes of the socket the shorting bar connects. If you have a shorting bar installed would you mind kindly checking and posting here? Just post the numbers of the holes that are connected.

That's it...unless there are variations between model years that I'm not aware of, that's how the daytime running lights work in all Contours/Mystiques of any year!

I'll trade you my bar for your relay :p

I'll take a pic for you tomorrow unless someone answers your question before me.

Hmm...okay, well here's the deal...I'll give you my DRL relay in exchange for your shorting bar and a turbo kit. Yes yes, I know, I'm being very generous, but you're such a nice guy I figured I'd do you a favor. Now don't think about it for too long...I could change my mind any minute. Just let me know when the shorting bar and turbo are in the mail and I'll send the relay off right away.

Heh heh...thanks Howard! To create my "shorting bar" I cut a strip of sheet metal and twisted it so it would fit into the right sockets. Now I have my high-beam back! And Chris, I didn't hear from you so I guess I'll just assume you thought my offer was too good to be true so you didn't bother even asking. (Seriously, though...I would give you my relay, except that if I were ever to want to sell the 'tour ( eek ) I would have to put it back in for the car to be legal for sale here in Toronto.)
