I started with the passanger side front door and polished it up with some mcguires. Did the rear door and it was awsome. Soooo much better. did the driver's side door and went to the back and then it happened.
apparently the rear strip had been re-aplied at some point because it had adhesive everywhere and the paint started chipping off with the adhesive in the middle! eek
I was torqued! I think I might just get some double sided tape and put them back on as opposed to getting the door repainted. what do you guys think? It looks so much better without them, but money is pretty tight.

how mutch paint is chipped off? some touchup paint might do the trick till you can (if you ever want to) have the door repainted. just a thought.

I had a similar incident with my moldings. frown I thought about reapplying them also, but it would be a tedious proceedure. This is the sort of thing that you're pretty commited to once you start. Instead I sanded and buffed the overspray line I uncovered and it looks pretty good.

I agree, I would try touching it up. Maybe same touch-up paint, sanding & buffing would do the trick but I can't say without seeing, of course. Good Luck! wink

I think he means that the door ding strips were put on before the door was clear-coated...so he has a racing stripe, like many of us. Since my car was bought used from a Ford dealer, they would not do anything as the previous owner "must have had the door repainted"...

You are looking at prolly $200+ to have the door repainted. I'm leaving mine like it is because it would cost a lot of money to fix every exterior blemish on my car. I still like it better than having the door ding strips on, one of my doors is older than the other so they were a different color on one side anyway. If someone really slams your car hard, the strip will still allow the door to be dented. And most trucks/SUVs ding my door higher up, as I have the biggest damn dent/scratch I have ever seen (not really but still...Got it before door ding strips) way up on the back of my car.

Just one question. Since there is no such thing as a door ding strip, could you possibly be talking about your body side moldings? lol :p

The strip was reaplied at some point in time because the other three had one thin strip of adhesive on the top and one on the bottom with a space in the middle. This one had adhesive the whole width through. It was not painted or anything that I could tell, but what happened was the adhesive was so strong it took little circular chips out with it. A couple are dime sized and then there are about ten that are half as big as a dime.
What exactly would be so hard about reaplying them besides leveling them?

Come on... smile

It is a strip of molding placed on the side of your car's body to prevent a door-ding.

I suppose you don't like the term side-skirt either? wink
I use the terminology that is easiest to understand.
