I want to attempt to feather the edges where my clearcoat is flaking. What grit sandpaper should I use? Should I use it dry, wet or with polish? I am sick of looking at it on the rear drivers side door but I can't justify taking it to a shop. Should I leave it alone or can I fix this myself?

Try 2000 or 2500 grit wet-or-dry (sand wet) then buff. It might just keep peeling until you get to the area where it was actually sanded ( if it was sanded) before someone , somewhere repainted your door.

Thanks DRAVEN. I think the door was repainted by the original owner and it is starting to flake where they cut in. When I sand wet is it with water or should I use polish to lubricate?

Just be careful that you dont start sanding any further than you want. Just sand enough to get the job done.

I got the 2000 grit paper, they didn't have 2500. I will have to wait a while to do it because my driveway was paved today. I would rather do this in the garage or on the driveway instead of on the road with the traffic and dust and all that.

I did the job today and let me tell you that I couldn't be happier. It turned out amazing. If I did't know it was flaking before I could never tell. Thanks for all your help DRAVEN/Judge. I have one last question in regards to this. I have used Meguiars scratch X and polish to eliminate the sanding marks. Would you recommend any thing else?

We use meguires at the shop. Seems to work fine for compounding but i still prefer 3m foam pad glaze (dark) for polishing after compound.
