Hi all,

1st timer here. Just got my 98 contour se and love it. Don't know anything about contours, but not car shy. I have the 2.5 engine auto 90,000 mi. Do I have a timing belt to change (haven't got manual yet)? I want to add performances as money allows. With auto what is my limit? I'm just starting to look over this site for answers of where to buy and what to get. Any help is welcome.

Thanks---Mop

No timing belt. You have a chain.

Nice choice- I've got a 98 SE myself, and I love it. You don't have to worry about changing any time belts- All four of your overhead cams (2 on each bank)are chain-driven... and you've got lots of other neat stuff, too. Alloy block and heads, forged crank, two stage intake manifold... lots of stuff most american sedan drivers don't even know exists, much less care about. You may not have the fancy mouse-fur interior and good cupholders, but you'll LOVE the power, handling, and braking.

90k is alright for the Duratec. It has a hydro/self tensioning chain drive for the cams.

AND, it looks like you are just a short drive away to Dallas, which is home of the CEG National Meet in just a few weeks! Check out the link in my sig for more info!

Welcome aboard!

Thanks all for the welcome.

I feel a little stupid ---today I just realized the 4 cam setup. What a super car. I thought it was just another FWD, but I was wrong. As money allows, I want to do some mods. At 57 years of age I'm living my 2nd childhood (with my wife of course) just toolin around, but far from retirement.

By the way this is a really super site. Loaded with lots of info.

Thanks--later,

Mop
