While at Carlisle I got to talk with 2 guys who want to help out the Contour cause... One guy owns OverBoosted.com ( www.overboosted.com - duh), and the other is the guy that runs OPMD www.opmd.com .
The guy from OverBoosted.com was interested in trying to make a y-pipe for us that would be a lower cost alternative. The guy from OPMD told me that he used to carry Contour stuff, but had no interest. I told him that if he marketed in the right places he could get a lot of business - he imports parts for european cars and could probably line us up with some Mondeo goodies at decent prices. He is very good with the Merkur end of things.
Is there any interest in pursuing these leads? How happy are we with the current y-pipes that are out there and their prices? I told both of these guys I would post here and gauge the interest.

I'm thinking about headin over to columbus ,OH sometime to have this guy make me a y pipe. So i'm interested, but currently el brokeola. He said that he would post someting as well. I figure with a Dyno proven part, anything will sell, right. BUT, the pipe that he has already prototyped on one SVT in the columbus area has no #'s to prove yet. Also the fabrication included the elimination of the 90 degree bend on the back pipe. Theere seems to be a debate on the function of this bend from the factory. HMM? Any input on that aspect would be noted.

LAter,

Chris S.

Learned that Merkurs share the same bolt pattern as us! THought that was cool. Actually saw one with the 95-97 7 spoke brushed style with RS center cap that looked really good.

Yup. He offered those Euro-Mondeo headlamp conversion kits that everyone here knows won't actually fit our cars, and the only reason I know that is because I have an interest in Merkurs and happened to be browsing some of the Merkur vendors one day.

If he wants to sell stuff to the Contour crowd, he needs to get serious and not just blame it on "lack of interest."

That said, more is always better in terms of vendors, and I would definitely welcome more offerings.

What I want in a Y-pipe is a clean bolt-on that doesn't cost too much, and that RETAINS THE STOCK CATS. We have quite a few Y-pipes on offer for our cars, so many that they are all starting to look alike. But no one is currently offering what I'm seeking. When I have the money, I'm off to the custom shop unless someone can offer me an alternative.

Why would anyone want this? Two reasons:
1) Technically, it's against federal law to replace any stock cat without certain specific conditions being met, such as a demonstrated need for replacement. Some people actually care about this (to the tune of a maximum $2,500 fine for each violation (for individuals), plus the cost of returning the system to stock.)

2) For many of us who autocross, class rules disallow replacement of the stock converters, even though they allow headers and other mods ahead of the stock cat, as well as behind it. A clean-flowing Y, even with stock pre and main cats, has been shown to boost us up as much as 4 hp, and in this business, every little bit counts.

My 2 cents.

Refering to my earlier post about the y pipe, the guy over at overboosted.com was talking about putting a flange on this pipe so you could retain the stock cat if you wanted. At least this is what I think he said. also the y was to be out of 2.5" material I thinks.

Later,

Chris.

Don't forget the heat shielding, unless you want to buy an additional oil cooler.

If he can get us some Mondeo goodies, at a fair price, excellent.
