Any body have the detailed schematic for the A6 sidemarker install? I just got a new pair of LED sidemarkers from CTAmotorsports.com .. THANKS CHRIS!! they look awesome...!!

Though I have a few questions I installed them with the diode from my prior A6 side marker install.. and they work fine until the lights are turned on.. when lights are on they are at half dim!! WTF!!! I originally just wanted them too have them blink only.. but now that I see that I can have them go half dim.. I'm thinking of redoing them as the A6 setup : (half dim on on, full bright on signal)

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.. and yes I did a search and the original (detailed) schematic is down..

Thanks

Martin

I think its in the FAQ's on the main site page.

Although, I'm confused to what your asking. Do you want them to be half dim with parking lights and full on the blinker. If so thats what the directions are for. I'm not sure what you would want to do in order to make them Full all the time I would guess removing the diode?

Sorry I should of added that when wired (the side markers have 3 wires) they didn't work.. though when I added the diode they worked fine.. only today when I turned on the lights did I notice that the sidemarkers worked at half dim .. frown

I wanted them on signal only.. though with them being able to half dim I was thinking of going back to the original A6 setup.. but nah.. I will just have them on signal.. though they don't work fully with the diode with the lights on..

Thanks for the reply

If you wired according to the A6 schematic on this site then you used three wires, one resistor, and one diode. The resistor is there to make the lights 'sidemarkers' as they should be about half as bright as normal. Then when the turn signal is activated the lights become 'side repeaters' because they recieve the full voltage from the turn signals in the front lights. The diode is there to stop the current 'back flow' into the front lamp assembly.

If you're wanting the lights to operate as 'side repeaters' only, ala Audi/VW, then you just need two wires going to the side lights. One ground and one positive(from the front turn signal). HTH. laugh

the side markers have 3 wires.. would I be able to just hook up 1 and the ground and they would work?? .. maybe I should experiment more.. thought I don't understand why they work perfectly (as a VW/Audi) and then when the lights are on they work at half dim.. and I am not using the resisters.. since I didn't intent on half dim..

Yes, if you hook up just two wires then they will work as 'side repeaters' only. You need one wire from the turn signal ground(or another ground)and one wire from the turn signals 'pulsing' power wire. I forget the colors right now but there should be three wires into the turn signal bulbs harness(not the side markers, the stock turn signals). One is ground, one is parking light power, and the other is turn signal power. Wire the turn signal power to the positive of your side marker and the ground to the ground of your side marker. Thats all you should need for 'side repeater' operation. I think you can also install a diode on the power wire to stop back flow to the stock bulb but I can't remember if it is absolutely necessary or not.
