If you wired according to the A6 schematic on this site then you used three wires, one resistor, and one diode. The resistor is there to make the lights 'sidemarkers' as they should be about half as bright as normal. Then when the turn signal is activated the lights become 'side repeaters' because they recieve the full voltage from the turn signals in the front lights. The diode is there to stop the current 'back flow' into the front lamp assembly.
If you're wanting the lights to operate as 'side repeaters' only, ala Audi/VW, then you just need two wires going to the side lights. One ground and one positive(from the front turn signal). HTH.
