Has anybody seen Silver Frost in a spray. All the stores around me stock Dupli-Color and it in not available in a spray. I want to paint my grill trim ring the same as my body color. Any suggestions?

well from what ive experienced with a spray can is its very hard to get an even spray, which means very easy for runs to happen..and lots of times even tho the paint code on the can matches the one on your car, they are different shades (at least with my experience). but, since its just a small piece of trim, u dont have much to lose but maybe $5 for a can of paint. i say go for it!

I agree with above. I did this in T-red, and it's a couple shades darker than the car...I would go to a ppg store and see if they can mix a can for you.

The local VIP auto parts store here carries paint by Plasti-Kote in both 6oz spray and 1oz bottle. You might check www.plasti-kote.com and see if they have the color you need. cool

Cool. Looks they they make it.
TS FM 8140* FM 3971* SILVER FROST PEARL M B/C

It also states:
"A Clear Coat must be used as the finish coat to achieve correct color match." which may be why the red (above)didn't match correctly.

You will never get the right shade . Silver Frost is one of the most difficult colors to match . and to increase this problem by using a spray can. It just wont work. Take this advise from a painter.

Use Plasti-kote silver frost code: FM 8140. Remember, a clear coat on top will help the color match better although standing alone it's still very accurate. I've had good luck with it. Perhaps the new coat might be a tad darker but within a few days I noticed the coat matches better. Maybe let the piece fade in the sun a few days after the initial drying.

By the way, it's easy to run the paint. My recommendation is to put on a very light tacky coat before putting on a fuller heavier coat five minutes later. Not necessary to coat the whole area on the first try. Also, shake the can often but remember to do it away from the paint area or you will get a lot of residue splatter from the nozzle.

Some other recommendations, when painting side skirts or bumpers, remember to wash the entire area and more. It takes quite a bit of area to get the touch-up to blend properly. Also, make sure you paint with no breeze in the air or in a garage. Otherwise the overspray goes everywhere.

If you are painting a grille, I'd hang it from a piece of wire.

When painting with a clear coat, there is nothing to it. Just put on a full heavy coat. But be careful, it can run too. Don't over do it.
