Yo! Check the user name! wink

I'm completely stock - 'my' Contour is really the 'third family vehicle.' Though I drive it, my parents own it and I share it with Sis. It took me all of last summer even to convince them to swap out the stereo!

One of the more popular things around here is "recontentment" - because the newer Contours (such as ours) lack many things that the original Contours (the '95 model particularly) had. Another is upgrading parts, like bumpers, to those of the SVT. You'll find that the Contour is realitively easy to mod; but I'm sorry I can't offer any things that I've personally done.

On a side note, I think you have the Duratec V6 engine (most, if not all, 98 SE's did). Check your files to see if its waterpump has ever been replaced. If not, and especially if you're over 40K miles, do it soon. They've been known to fall apart.

I'm curious - do you have a 98 or a 98.5? Ford basically did a two-step process in redesigning the car. One of the easiest ways to tell is that the 98 has a clock in the dash, while the 98.5 (and newer) just says "Contour" under the center vents.

Welcome to the CEG. I guarantee that if you stay on the site long enough (like many of us have), you will learn a LOT about your Contour. I know for a fact that I have.

I have to disagree on the "no clock in the dash" 98.5 distinction. I have a 98 SE that has the clock in the dash, but it also has alot of the 98.5 improvements as well. It has the indented back seats, it's a Zetec and an SE instead of a GL (which they started changing around for the 98.5's), and the build date is 11/97, which is around when they started doing the 98.5's smile

Just my .02; I'm not trying to say you're absolutely wrong, but there are a few weird 'Tours that were built during the 98 and 98.5 models smile

Agreed w/ Rynn about the clock thing. I was confused by this (and a few other things) for quite a while thinking my 'tour was a '98, not a '98.5 (which it is).

The best thing to do is check the FAQ for the VIN decoder. It should give you a solid answer on which MY you fall in. Mine has a build date of 9/97.

Regardless, welcome to the group!
