i drive a 96 contour se with the "light package" option. im not sure exactly what that option adds, but theres these funky green lights in the little recess for the door handle. only thing is, the light on the front passenger side is out. how do i fix that? im putting in new speakers soon, so i'd like to take care of it while the panels are off.

Yeah, I have the same thing. One of my lights in the back is out like this. I have been wondering how to fix these for a while.

You have to remove the door panels. Good thing your changing speakers, you can do this while you have the panels off. Make sure you get all the screws, they're tricky (one kinda behind the door-opener-lever, two behind the front door handles, and a bunch around the edges of the door panels). You'll have to use a utility knife or razor blade to cut the silicone/caulking that seals the foam to the door to get to the little green light bulbs. They're mounted into the black frame of the door-opener-lever assembly (I know, real technical terms laugh ). Order a few extra of the little green light bulbs from Bill Jenkins, or fordpartsonline.com until Bill gets back. Have fun!

BTW, the new green ones will be a slightly darker green compared to the old ones. That's normal, its just fade. If it really bugs ya, replace the other bulbs too while your doing your speakers.

I added those lights to my car a while back.
Please tell me when yours are on.
When the key is taken out, do they stay on for a little while, or not? If so, maybe i can look at a wiring diagram for a earlier model for an easy way to get that done.

The ones in my `96 are only on when the headlamps are on.

Go with leds because they won't burn out during the life of the car.
